Overton grabs DIRTcar Nationals opener at Volusia

The next stop on the 2026 Speedweeks schedule brought Brandon Overton and the Riggs Motorsports team to Volusia Speedway Park, where the Late Model ranks took center stage for the 55th annual Federated Auto Parts DIRTcar Nationals.

Continuing his recent momentum, Overton set the pace in time trials with a blistering 15.853-second lap before cruising to a heat race victory. He then fended off an early challenge from Cade Dillard in the main event to claim his fourth consecutive win, earning the $7,000 top prize.

“I’m so glad I won. I’m so sick of hearing this s--- about how I don’t race against anybody,” Overton said. “There are no slouches anymore. No matter where you go in the country, if you’re racing a Super Late Model, somebody’s going to be fast. You couldn’t have scripted it any better. The only bad thing about winning is losing—you get a little taste, you want to keep winning, and when you lose, it really sucks.”

After a disappointing 17th-place finish on Tuesday, Overton rebounded on Wednesday, closing out the DIRTcar-sanctioned portion of the event with a runner-up finish.

As competition shifted to World of Outlaws sanctioning from Thursday through Saturday, Overton narrowly missed transferring into Thursday’s main event but bounced back with a strong second-place finish in Friday’s 35-lap feature.

In Saturday’s $20,000-to-win DIRTcar Nationals finale, Overton salvaged a 16th-place finish in the 50-lap main event after bringing out a lap-36 caution.
