Runner-up finish in Knoxville Late Model Nationals prelim
The latest stop on the Lucas Oil Late Model Dirt Series circuit brought Brandon Overton and the Riggs Motorsports Longhorn Factory Team to Knoxville Raceway this past weekend for the annual Lucas Oil Late Model Knoxville Nationals.
Overton opened the weekend with an 11th-place finish during Thursday’s preliminary feature, but bounced back strong on Friday night, delivering his best performance of the weekend with a runner-up finish in the 25-lap main event. He shared the podium with race winner Devin Moran and third-place finisher Jonathan Davenport.
However, Overton’s hopes of capturing Saturday’s $75,000 top prize came to an early end. Just five laps into the feature, contact sent him hard into the backstretch wall, forcing him to retire early from the 75-lapper.
Overton remains seventh in the latest LOLMDS point standings.
