Overton charges to ninth in Dirt Late Model Dream prelim at Eldora
Seeking his fourth straight Dirt Late Model Dream victory, Brandon Overton unloaded his Wells Motorsports No. 76 Late Model on Thursday at Eldora Speedway (Rossburg, Ohio) for the 29th running of the crown jewel weekend.
With the massive 95-car field split into two groups, Overton raced his way into his 25-lap preliminary feature with a consolation victory after missing a transfer spot by one car in his heat. Charging into the top-10, Brandon passed 13 cars to score a ninth-place finish.
For another round of prelims on Friday, Brandon stopped the clock 11th-fastest in his qualifying group but blew a right-rear tire while holding a commanding lead his heat that sent him slamming in the turns one and two wall. Despite the wind being knocked out of him, he was able to walk away unharmed.
Rolling off on the third row of his heat race on Saturday to earn a spot into the $129,000-to-win Dirt Late Model Dream, Overton was up to fourth and challenging for a transfer position when another competitor tagged the wall and left him nowhere to go. His Wells Motorsports entry sustained too much damage to continue, ending his bid for his fourth-straight Dirt Late Model Dream triumph.
